Senior Sales Tax Audit Accountant
Summary: Our global, employee-focused client in Charlotte is seeking a Senior Sales Tax Audit Accountant to work on a HYBRID schedule while reporting to the Sales Tax Director and being responsible for timely and accurate reviewing and reconciling of state and local tax returns while providing excellent internal customer service to field and corporate operations. Location: Charlotte, NC- Airport area - (will start out remote and then will become a Hybrid Schedule )
Direct Hire Compensation: $70,000 - $75,000 (plus 3-5% annual raise potential)

Responsibilities:
- Assist team with auditing sales tax returns for a certain amount of states and/or entities
- Gather records, reconcile, and analyze tax data, and prepare responses related to audit defense
- Review around 100 tax return monthly from 3rd party CPA firm (who already processes the returns)
- Respond to sales tax inquiries raised by internal customers and taxing jurisdictions
- Research, document, and communication of complex tax issues (tax accruals, updates on returns, etc.)
- Assist in identification of risk and opportunities to the business as they relate to sales and use taxes
- Provide resale certificates to vendors
- Maintain updated exemption certificates from customers
- Assist with sales tax compliance and business licensing as needed
- Develop and maintain sales tax knowledge relating to laws and regulations in assigned states
- Identify process improvements and cost savings opportunities
- Other special projects as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Tax, or related
- 3+ years multi-state sales and use tax audit defense and/or compliance experience required
- Strong proficiency with Excel, SAP preferred
- Strong accounting and analytical skills
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage large amounts of electronic data
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with ability to adjust to shifting priorities
