Onsite IT Support Consultant
Location: Greensboro, NC
Compensation: $20.00/ hourly
Duration: 6+ month contract
Position Summary
As the Time-Critical & Onsite IT Support Consultant, you will be the local technical contact for urgent incidents and day-to-day IT needs affecting engineering productivity. You will provide hands-on troubleshooting, restore service within agreed priorities, communicate status to users and stakeholders, and engage the appropriate resolver groups when an issue requires specialized or global support.
This position provides support for Windows clients, engineering workstations, test and lab computers, HIL rigs, peripherals, local connectivity, software installations, access issues, and other infrastructure dependencies. The consultant will also support planned maintenance, upgrades, deployments, and remediation activities that reduce operational risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide onsite, hands-on support for time-critical incidents affecting engineering, test, lab, and office operations.
- Triage incidents, determine business impact and urgency, restore service where possible, and escalate promptly to the correct resolver team.
- Troubleshoot Windows clients, engineering workstations, hardware, software, peripherals, access, connectivity, and local infrastructure dependencies.
- Support test and lab computers, HIL rigs, specialized engineering devices, and associated network connections.
- Install, configure, replace, and maintain approved client hardware, software, applications, communication tools, and peripherals.
- Support planned deployments, client migrations, upgrades, patching, vulnerability remediation, and equipment refresh activities.
- Maintain accurate incident, request, asset, and work-log information in the designated service-management tools.
- Provide timely status updates to affected users, stakeholders, service desks, and technical teams during critical incidents.
- Coordinate with local and global infrastructure teams and remain engaged until service is restored or ownership is formally transferred.
- Document troubleshooting steps, known fixes, and recurring problems; recommend practical improvements that reduce downtime.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience providing onsite deskside or field IT support in a business-critical environment.
- Strong troubleshooting capability across Windows clients, PCs, laptops, peripherals, software, user access, and network connectivity.
- Experience supporting engineering, manufacturing, test, or laboratory environments is strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of LAN connectivity, endpoint security, patching, software deployment, and hardware lifecycle activities.
- Experience using IT service-management tools and working within incident, request, change, and problem-management processes.
- Ability to assess urgency, manage competing priorities, and remain effective during high-impact incidents.
- Clear written and verbal communication in English, with disciplined documentation and stakeholder updates.
- Ability to work onsite in Greensboro and perform hands-on installation, connection, replacement, and troubleshooting of IT equipment.
