Director of Total Rewards
We are partnering with a rapidly growing, PE-backed, mid-sized global company on a Director of Total Rewards search! This individual will lead the strategy, design, execution, and optimization of the organization’s compensation and benefits programs, ensuring they remain competitive, compliant, and financially sound. The role will have broad ownership across Total Rewards and play a key part in aligning programs with business objectives while supporting a consistent employee experience across a multi-site, multi-state organization.
Location: Charlotte, NC (South Charlotte)
Compensation: $150,000 - $180,000 + 20% bonus
Schedule: Hybrid – 4 days per week in office
Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes, 2 direct reports
Total Rewards Strategy & Execution
- Lead the design and execution of compensation and benefits programs aligned with organizational and financial objectives.
- Evaluate programs through market analysis, benchmarking, and ongoing performance reviews to ensure they remain competitive and cost-effective.
- Leverage data and market insights to identify opportunities and recommend meaningful program enhancements.
Compensation
- Oversee compensation programs, including salary structures, job evaluations, market pricing, and incentive plans.
- Lead annual compensation cycles, including planning, modeling, and implementation of salary and incentive changes.
- Advise leadership on pay decisions, internal equity, and job leveling.
- Maintain competitive and equitable compensation frameworks.
Benefits & Leave
- Oversee employee benefit programs, including self-funded medical, 401(k), retirement, wellness, and leave programs.
- Manage benefits across multiple pay groups and employee populations.
- Lead annual renewals, plan design changes, and open enrollment.
- Ensure benefits programs are communicated clearly and effectively to employees.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compensation and benefits programs comply with applicable regulations, including FLSA, ERISA, and ACA.
- Maintain audit readiness and appropriate governance over plan administration.
- Oversee 401(k) compliance, testing, and issue resolution, including Puerto Rico considerations.
- Monitor regulatory developments and implement required program changes.
HRIS, Payroll & Data Management
- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of Total Rewards data within the HRIS
- Partner closely with Payroll to ensure alignment across compensation and benefits processes.
- Oversee vendor integrations and file feeds and resolve data and eligibility issues.
- Develop reporting and analytics to support Total Rewards and business decision-making.
Vendor Management
- Manage relationships with brokers, carriers, compensation data providers, and other Total Rewards vendors.
- Evaluate vendor performance, service delivery, and cost effectiveness.
- Lead the implementation of new programs, vendors, and tools.
Leadership & Employee Support
- Serve as the organization’s subject matter expert for Total Rewards.
- Lead and develop the Total Rewards team.
- Resolve complex compensation and benefits issues affecting employees and leadership.
- Identify process and program gaps and implement solutions that improve effectiveness and the employee experience.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive compensation/benefits/ Total Rewards experience.
- Experience managing Total Rewards programs within a multi-site, multi-state environment.
- Strong knowledge of self-funded medical plans, including carved-out pharmacy benefits.
- Experience with 401(k) compliance and audit processes.
- Experience supporting multiple pay groups and complex payroll structures.
- Strong understanding of multi-state compliance; Puerto Rico exposure is preferred.
- Dayforce or comparable HRIS experience preferred.
- Experience with wellness and population health initiatives.
- Experience managing vendor integrations and file feeds.
- Strong analytical, communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
