Fund Controller | Real Estate

Summary: Our small and rapidly growing Commercial Real Estate client, conveniently located in a beautiful building just South of Uptown Charlotte, is looking for a highly motivated Real Estate Fund Controller join their growing team! The Fund Controller will be able to work on a hybrid (remote/onsite) and will be managing the entire investment accounting function for the organization, as well as assist with development project accounting! The best fit will be someone who is willing to work hard and wear many hats, and is eager to grow! Location: South Charlotte (South Park) – Flexible Hybrid Schedule!

Compensation: $120,000 – $150,000 + 20%+ bonus (depending on experience, skills, education, certifications, and overall fit)

Direct Reports: None currently

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the management of accounting functions as it relates to real estate investment funds, while assisting with development project accounting
  • Accurately report and distribute quarterly distribution to investors and lenders.
  • Manage administrative and operational duties of funds including distribution calculations made from investments
  • Coordinate preparation of investment funds tax returns for investors between commercial properties and investments
  • Review administrator prepared investor allocations to ensure proper calculation of preferred returns and incentive payments
  • Help manage the budgets for multiple commercial real estate development projects and perform project accounting (job costing, project billing, etc.)
  • Review of tax basis-maintained books and records to GAAP Financial Statements
  • Perform general ledger accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, process improvements, etc.
  • Manage accounting functions on accrual and cash basis
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives that support the growth strategy, strong system of internal controls and operational excellence.
  • Assist with planning, directing, and coordinating accounting operational functions as the team grows.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; Master's degree preferred
  • Must have 7-10+ years’ experience of overall progressive accounting experience
  • 5+ years of RECENT Real Estate Fund/Investment Accounting experience
  • Experience with tax basis, joint venture accounting, real estate development project accounting, month-end, financial statement preparation, and budgeting
  • Knowledge of Delaware Statutory Trust (DST) Tenant-In-Common (TIC) preferred
  • Ability to multitask and be flexible in a fast-paced, changing environment and wear many hats
