Opportunity: Contract (through end of August) Location: Chesapeake, VA Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:30am-5pm Compensation: $22-$26 (based on experience)
Responsibilities:
Maintaining withholding data for employees in accordance with agency requirements.
Prepare, process and fund weekly and/or bi-weekly payroll tax wires.
Process monthly and quarterly returns for taxing authorities not supported by ADP.
Maintain local tax controls in HCM/Payroll system, including coordination & transmission of new deduction withholdings through ADP SmartCompliance. Includes establishing appropriate withholding for new work locations, tax mapping, setting up jurisdictions, complete end-to-end process.
Register new tax accounts with local authorities and withholding and SUI accounts with state agencies. Communicate and map new account data to ADP SmartCompliance.
Maintain state unemployment rates (SUI) between HCM/Payroll system and ADP SmartCompliance.
Monitor external tax notifications and internal payroll reports and build and run Excel Add-In and Showcase queries to identify tax concerns and new areas of process improvement. Make updates and corrections accordingly in HCM/Payroll system and ADP SmartCompliance.
Research employee tax issues and make necessary manual payroll adjustments and W-2 corrections.
Research and respond timely to tax agency notices to ensure proper reporting and remittance of taxable wages and tax in order to minimize company risk and Penalties and Interest (P&I).
Assists with quarterly and year-end processing including W-2s, W-2Cs and Canadian T4 & T4 Amendments.
Run necessary reports, payroll processes, off-cycle payroll closes, participate in internal & external audits.
Monitor and maintain correct payroll tax deduction per submitted Federal W-4s and State and Local tax withholding forms.
Qualifications:
2 years multi-state payroll tax processing or equivalent experience with multi-state Payroll Taxation
Associates in Accounting or other Financial Degree preferred
Protection of Confidential and Personally Identifiable Information (PII)
Working knowledge of MS Software to include Excel; pivot tables, formulas, linking cells and spreadsheets
Infor Lawson and/or Workday payroll experience, or similar systems preferred
